Human Rights
Lesson One: What are Human Rights?
Human rights are the basic rights and freedoms that belong to every person in the world. Ideas about human rights had been around for a while, but they gained a lot of support after the Holocaust and World War II. To protect others from a repeat of these horrors, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was put in place in 1948 by the United Nations. Since then, human beings have had a shared set of rights that EVERY human is entitled to.
