Alternative Religions and New Religious Movements
Within this unit you will be looking at 12 of the worlds minor religions and exploring how they began and what they believe. We will engage with the different religious perspectives and explore how they differ from the traditional main religions of the world. Some of the religions we will look at exist in their own right as separate religions such as Baha'i and Confucianism, others exist within the realms of other Religions such as Mormonism as part of Christianity and Shi'a & Sunni as part of Islam.
As part of this unit we will also consider what it means to be a religion vs why some are sometimes considered to be a cult whilst also examining why parodies of religions have began such as Pastafarianism and Jediism.
